Breaking news: Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons guide. Once a week, Bungie selects one of Destiny 2’s Strikes and releases a timed Nightfall version of the group challenge. It’s a tougher fight all round, but the rewards are much sweeter, and so you’re very much encouraged to make these encounters part of your play each week. Not only does the Nightfall Strike in question rotate each week, there are also a handful of modifiers applied to up the challenge even further.
These might affect the damage you do, for example, or allow you to regain a little time for the clock as you clear through enemies. We thought it would be useful to bring together a quick guide to everything that’s currently known about Nightfall Strikes in one place.

Everything about expansion two for Bungie’s “shared world shooter” Destiny makes sense to me. The changes to the competitive multiplayer portion of the game we reported on last week give PvP, for the first time, a proper endgame. The new upgrade system means any Legendary or Exotic weapon and armour piece can be made level 34 – without it losing progression.
And the new Prison of Elders arena mode, revealed by Bungie today, is a cool twist on wave-based fighting and a lot of fun for three-player Fireteams. But, having played Prison of Elders, I just can’t shake the sense of disappointment about House of Wolves not adding a new Raid. Bungie has its reasons and I get them.
I imagine Destiny’s Raids, which are designed for six players and require a level of communication and strategy beyond the rest of the game, are impenetrable to many. Without matchmaking, Raids require groups of players to manually form Fireteams. This just isn’t feasible for a lot of people.
Destiny – New Prison of Elders Details: Scorch Cannon, Critical Objectives, Modifiers
Bungie gave players a look at Destiny ‘s new and evidently pretty tough Prison of Elders mode in a live stream earlier today. The short explanation is “yep, it’s definitely a three-player horde mode” – but with all the flourishes and quirks you expect from high-level Destiny play. The base-level Prison of Elders is rated for Level 28, and all of its challenges and modifiers are randomly selected. It’s matchmaking-ready and you’re free to play as many times a week as you want.
If you have a pre-made team, you can also take a crack at the three challenges set at level 32, level 34, and level

One of the more interesting features to be added into Destiny 2 via its recently launched Warmind DLC is a new type of endgame activity called Escalation Protocols. In theory, Escalation Protocols function as a special sort of outdoor endgame activity in which players fight off increasingly powerful waves of Hive enemies. In the eyes of the community, one slight tweak could potentially fix those headaches: Escalation Protocol matchmaking.
Sadly, even the most skilled fireteams have been finding the later waves of the Escalation Protocols in which enemy power levels nearly crest while players are capped at an insurmountable challenge. Since a single instance of Hellas Basin can hold a maximum of nine players at once, those seeking to defeat an entire Escalation Protocol have turned to unorthodox strategies in order to gather three fireteams in the same instance and thus increase their chances of success.
Bungie has never explicitly said how many players are meant to undertake a single Escalation Protocol, but their presence in Hellas Basin suggests that the closer to nine players there are, the better. Will Prison of Elders Have Matchmaking? (Community Expectation Poll). Yes. No. Just curious to see what you guys think.
Here is how ” optional ” matchmaking would work. Once activated, the game will automatically look for team mates for you like it does in strike missions and stuff. People have different schedules, so even if a player had an abundance of friends playing Destiny; playing with them can still be a challenge because of such things like But, what I am curious about is how many people that LIKE this game have been locked out of the ” end game content ” because of the lack of ” optional ” matchmaking?
I’m sorry to say this, but Destiny 2 is going to be a massive failure if ” optional ” matchmaking isn’t implemented in it. As much as I’ve enjoyed Destiny, and as great as TTK is looking at least if the hype talk is accurate , there’s a good chance I’ll pass on it just because of the limited matchmaking options. I suspect I’m not the only one. I haven’t played since a few weeks after PoE released. Matchmaking is the biggest of a list of reasons I just stopped. Bungie stated that Destiny was a “big social experiment” I’m not the most social person out there, but I’d say I’m definitely not anti-social by any means.
Some nights, I don’t mind playing with friends, be it a lot or a few.
Destiny’s Lack of Matchmaking Persists Leading Into Year 2
Prison of Elders is a three-player cooperative arena activity that was included in the Destiny expansion House of Wolves. As guessed by numerous fans, Prison of Elders is a variation on the Horde mode first popularized years ago by Gears of War. In the storyline of House of Wolves, most of the Fallen soldiers that previously served the Queen of the Awoken have betrayed her, but one of the Fallen remained behind in the Reef and is still loyal. This Fallen character, named Variks, acts as a warden for the prison, and he engineers an opportunity for guardians to test their mettle within the dreaded detention facility.
Variks acts both as the central narrator for the Prison, but also as the vendor for rewards. Looking beyond the story setup, Prison of Elders is built as an end-game activity for three players. Each run at the Prison of Elders requires three players.
Prison of Elders is a semi-random horde mode that’s too tough for Bungie
You need those services to do almost everything in Destiny. If by “I don’t have friends” you mean you don’t have a big friends list or people who play Destiny , most activities have Matchmaking.

The Destiny experience as it is today would be hardly recognizable to someone that only played the game at launch. While it’s still the same core experience, Bungie has endlessly updated the game based on feedback from fans, tweaking things here and there, and adding often requested features to try to make Destiny the best it can be. Unfortunately, while Bungie does a pretty good job at listening to their fans for the most part, there is one issue that they seemingly refuse to budge on, and that is matchmaking.
At first, fans demanded that matchmaking be added to Destiny’s raids, as they are almost impossible to complete solo with some exceptions , and quite frankly, some people simply do not want to take the extra effort to have to seek out others to play with personally. Months after the introduction of raids in Destiny , and there is still no matchmaking. Fans cooled on this particular issue, but now Bungie has drawn their ire yet again, this time regarding a new gameplay mode added in the House of Wolves expansion.
The new mode in question is the horde mode-like Prison of Elders , a co-op PvE experience that, much like the raids, suffers from a severe matchmaking deficiency. While the level 28 version of Prison of Elders has matchmaking, the higher level versions of the mode do not. This hasn’t sat well with fans of the game, and they’ve openly criticized the Prison of Elders for its lack of matchmaking.
After staying silent on the subject for a couple of weeks, Bungie community manager Deej has finally issued a statement in regards to fan demand for Prison of Elders matchmaking. Apparently, Bungie has added Prison of Elders matchmaking to their “wish list” thread, wherein they post potential features and updates that they may or may not add to the game down the road. In a post to the community, Deej said, “You have my personal assurances that the design teams know you want it.
Destiny: No matchmaking in Raids is fine, but what about the rest of the end game?
On April 12, , Destiny and The Division will go head-to-head for the first time when they each release their free updates. The April update will come with a new mission that takes place on the Dreadnaught called Pretender to the Throne. However, no one voice controls them. Apparently someone is trying to fill the void of power that Oryx left, and Variks would like you to investigate. The quest name for this mission is At the Gates, and you can obtain it at the Reef by speaking with Variks, the Loyal.
The Prison of Elders has been overhauled and brought up in difficulty to match end game challenges and rewards.
Destiny – New Prison of Elders Details: Scorch Cannon, Critical Objectives, Modifiers None of these playlists have matchmaking so players have to rely on Reddits To defeat Valus Trau’ug you’ll need a good selection of varying weapon.
Jump to navigation. Most endgame activities in Destiny Nightfall Strikes, Raids, the Trials of Osiris PvP mode, the higher-level versions of Prison of Elders currently do not support matchmaking since they require the sort of coordination only an established group of players could attain. Even endgame activities that do support matchmaking, such as the Iron Banner PvP event, the lowest-difficulty tier of Prison of Elders, and Heroic Strikes, are so difficult to complete that throwing yourself to the mercy of the matchmaking system is a gamble where the odds are definitely not in your favor.
If there was more endgame content for solo-minded Destiny players to sink their teeth into, I doubt the game would be getting as much of a bad rap as it does now. A typical Prison of Elders match is made up of five rounds with each round awarding a small bit of faction reputation upon completion. I think a fair compromise would be to offer minor rewards for each round completed that went beyond a small bump in reputation; maybe a cache of Glimmer or some crafting materials or even the chance at a rare engram.
Trying to string players along with the promise of a big reward at the end can be equal parts tempting and frustrating but offering smaller prizes along the way can help smooth over any aggravation that crops up from an unsuccessful attempt. Finishing a round of Crucible PvP or a cooperative Strike in Destiny currently awards faction reputation and marks used to buy faction gear. Providing this extra incentive would encourage players to stick it out through a grueling Prison of Elders match or a Crucible game in which they were on the losing team instead of simply quitting and leaving their teammates in the lurch.
It would be even better if Bungie could figure out a way to scale the end-of-match rewards to the difficulty of the match itself making it through a level 32 Prison of Elders match, for instance, would come with a much higher chance at rarer rewards than completing a level 18 Strike. These are just some suggestions I thought up to make both Destiny and multiplayer games in general friendlier towards casual players. If you have your own suggestions, feel free to share them in the comments below.
